Job Purpose:

As an Entry Level Field Technician, you'll contribute significantly to our team by meticulously inspecting, testing, and maintaining substation electrical equipment, including critical components like circuit breakers and transformers. Your attention to detail will ensure the seamless operation of these systems, as you detect malfunctions and evaluate resistance and load using specialized test equipment.

 

Position Title: Entry Level Field Technician

Salary Range: $28-$38 per hour

Travel: 25-60%

Responsibilities

Throughout your journey as an entry-level Field Technician, you will receive guidance and training from experienced professionals in the field. This hands-on learning experience will equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in your role and lay a solid foundation for a successful career in the electrical power industry.

 

  • Receive guidance and training from experienced professionals to develop necessary skills for success in the electrical power industry.
  • Gain proficiency in inspecting and testing various electrical equipment, including circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, motors, and potential transformers (PT's).
  • Familiarize yourself with test equipment such as power factor testing devices, ductors, meggers, CT ratio & saturation testers, and hi-pot cable testing equipment.
  • Develop problem-solving skills to efficiently troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Assist in troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, and cleaning equipment within substations while learning preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Consult manuals, schematics, and engineering personnel to troubleshoot and optimize equipment functioning.
  • Maintain accurate records documenting all tests, repairs, and maintenance activities performed.
  • Assist in conducting high, medium, and low voltage testing under the guidance of experienced technicians.
  • Study for and prepare to take the NETA Exam to obtain certification in electrical testing.
  • Engage in ongoing education and professional development to stay current with advancements in the electrical testing industry.

Qualifications

 

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • Apply electrical theory from Associates/Bachelor's degree or military experience to practical scenarios
  • Develop skills in testing and troubleshooting high, medium, and low voltage systems
  • Gain familiarity with electrical equipment: Circuit Breakers, Transformers, Switchgear, Motors/Motor Controls, PT's, and CCVT's
  • Learn to operate and maintain test equipment: Power Factor Testing, Ductor, Megger/Insulation Resistance Testing, CT ratio & saturation, and Hi-Pot Cable Testing
  • Prioritize safety and compliance with industry standards
  • Enhance communication skills for effective reporting and documentation
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and professional growth

Additional Requirements:

In addition to the qualifications mentioned above, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
  • Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
