Job Purpose:

A System Protection Group (SPG) Engineer II will work to create successful programs, studies, and reports for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including transmission & distribution, generation, institutional, industrial, and manufacturing facilities.  

 

Responsibilities

  • System studies – Short Circuit, Protective settings, Coordination, Harmonics, Motor Starting, Arc Flash 
  • Relay programming – SEL, GE, ABB, Basler, Siemens, SquareD, Beckwith 
  • Power Quality Studies – From load studies to forensic analysis 
  • Performing Failure Analysis and Trouble Shooting 
  • Develop estimates for complex, non-standard projects 
  • Participate in both internal and external meetings as required 
  • Provide technical support to testing teams, including such items as: analyzing power quality tests, medium voltage cable tests, relay test results and relay event reports 
  • Provide training and guidance to less experienced engineers 
  • Design and implementation consulting to customers 
  • Perform quality control reviews of projects as required 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

 

  • Must have a BSEE from an ABET accredited school 
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license 
  • Must pass a drug and alcohol screening 
  • At least 1 year experience in multiple fields, including: System Studies, Relay Programming, Power Quality Studies, Failure Analysis, Trouble Shooting 
  • Knowledge of these programs: SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, PSSE, PSLF, ASPEN  
  • Familiar with NFPA and IEEE standards 
  • Experience gathering electrical equipment data 
  • Successful completion of the EPS Quality Manual Training Program 
  • Up to 15% - 20% travel required
