Job Summary:

The Sr. Field Technician will inspect, test, and maintain High, Medium, and Low electrical power equipment. Technicians will work with electrical equipment, such as SF6 & vacuum circuit breakers, pad mount transformers/GSU transformers, grounding, instrument transformers, and variance of switches both manual and motor operated.  Technicians will implement safety policies. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment maintenance, repair, and retrofit at large electrical substations.
  • Test high and low voltage electrical equipment, including switchgears, cables, transformers, bushings, connections, lightning arresters, and equipment configuration.
  • Assemble transformers and electrical panels, connections, procedures, and protocols.
  • Complete technical reviews of the data sheets.
  • Facilitate test equipment requirements.
  • Ensure all company and client safety policies are adhered to at all times, including performing leadership safety excellence onsite and participating in all safety meetings.
  • Respond to emergency calls as required by clients.
  • Coordinate engineering work orders with the company’s maintenance crews.
  • Collaborate with the client’s planners to improve upon work orders.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external groups regarding maintenance activities and scheduling.
  • Develop site strategy and adjust timelines accordingly.
  • Escalate awareness of engineering and technical issues on projects within a timely manner to the project manager and the client.
  • Provide project status updates on a daily basis to the client’s reliability team.
  • Responsible for site quality and document reviews along with the safety of the team.
  • Ensure documentation is completed, compiled, and filed in accordance with the client’s procedures, including all test reports.
  • Position supervises up to 10 employees (Field Engineer, Sr. Field Engineer, Relay Engineer, Sr. Relay Engineer, and Project Manager) at a time depending upon project needs.
  • Position to be performed at various unanticipated locations throughout Ohio.
  • Position will report to the local office in Cincinnati, Ohio. 90% travel required to utility substations throughout Ohio for 30-90 day assignments with occasional out-of-state domestic travel.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or a related field and 3 years of experience.
  • Must have some experience in each of the following skills:
    • Power DB software, including use and form creation
    • Doble Protection Suite and Doble DTA 2.0
    • Accelerator quick set software
    • Omicron test universal
    • Equipment - DVM, DILO, Megger, Vanguard, Doble M4100, TDR900, Doble 6150 Relay Test Set, VLF HiPot, GE Enervista,  ABB and WinZip
    • Reading electrical schematics
    • Point to Point verifications of electrical system
    • Component function checks.
