Job Purpose:

The Certified OPGW Fiber Technician will be responsible for the terminating, splicing, documenting and testing of all fiber optic lines within a customer’s network. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform fiber tests with OTDR’s, light source and meters.
  • Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds and tests fiber optic equipment to standards.
  • Perform installation of fiber optic equipment and patch and panels.
  • Be proficient in the operation of all related fiber tools and equipment.
  • Terminate, splice and install a variety of fiber optic connectors and enclosures.
  • Troubleshoot damaged fiber effectively and efficiently.
  • Perform fiber tests with OTDRs, light source and meters.
  • Learn and adhere to all safety standards.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Knowledge of Fiber Optics and Networking.
  • Be able to read and understand blue prints, designs and work scopes.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
  • Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, able to lift 70 lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

  • NETA certified a plus.
  • 5+ years of previous experience in field.
  • Degree in Electrical/Electrical technology, or Military experience. 
  • CWDM and DWDM experience.
  • Fiber Optic Certifications.
