Job Overview:

The Control Technician I is an entry-level role responsible for assisting with the installation, inspection, and maintenance of control wiring systems within electrical substations. This position focuses on developing foundational skills in cable installation, terminations, and print reading while working under direct supervision. The role emphasizes strict adherence to safety practices and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in substation environments.
  • Participate in safety training programs, meetings, and daily job briefings to maintain awareness of hazards and safe work practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety by following procedures, reporting hazards, and supporting incident reviews and lessons learned.
  • Assist with receiving, staging, and verifying materials against provided material lists to ensure completeness.
  • Support cable pulling activities by handling cable reels, staging materials, and assisting in routing cables under supervision.
  • Apply cable labels under direction and learn proper identification practices for control wiring systems.
  • Perform basic cable preparation, including stripping insulation and preparing conductors for termination. Including terminations under direct supervision while learning correct tool usage and techniques.
  • Support testing activities, including preparation for megger testing, under the direction of experienced personnel.
  • Adhere to and learn wiring diagrams, schematics, and verbal instructions to complete assigned tasks accurately.
  • Work closely with senior technicians and engineers to support field activities and learn proper techniques and procedures.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
  • Keep a clean and organized work environment throughout the duration of the project by removing trash, scrap materials, and unused equipment from the work area on a daily basis ensuring all walkways, workspaces, and access areas are free from tripping hazards and obstructions.

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen due to this being a safety sensitive position.

  • Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
  • Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, able to lift 70 lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.

Preferred: 

  • NETA certified a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Electrical/Electronic technology, or Military experience preferred
  • Experience with the following test equipment:

    • Power Factor
    • Ductor
    • Megger
    • CT ration & saturation
    • Hi-Pot
  • Knowledge of the following equipment:

    • Circuit Breakers
    • Low Voltage, Medium Voltage, High Voltage | LV/MV/HV
    • Transformers
    • Switchgear
    • Motors
    • PT's & CCVT's
